This is a project that goes beyond the usual studio work and lets us contribute to something that could genuinely change lives. That’s what Mind Your Back is all about, and we were honoured to be part of it.
ParaQuad NSW, through our long-time collaborator and friend Alison Turner, asked us to write a theme song for their new Spinal Cord Injury Prevention campaign aimed at 16 to 24-year-olds through a school-based program. This is the age group most at risk of these life-altering injuries. Alison had worked with Cyrius many years ago through our mutual connections with the NSW Government, and when she found out about our audio-video side over here at Cyrius MediaWorks, she kept us in mind until the right opportunity came up.
That opportunity was Mind Your Back. A powerful, multi-platform campaign filled with resources, videos, stories and now… a song.
The brief? Create something catchy and memorable, a bit of a jingle feel, but handle the subject with care and a little bit of irreverence to appeal to the young audience. We’re talking about the real and devastating consequences of spinal cord injuries, so the tone had to walk that fine line between engaging, entertaining and respectful.
We started with the lyrics, making sure every line supported the campaign’s message. Alison gave us some great feedback, and after a couple of tiny tweaks, we got the green light to dive into the composition.
And honestly? The song pretty much wrote itself. The chorus flowed, the melody locked in, and suddenly we had this upbeat, toe-tapping tune with a serious message tucked underneath. It struck the balance we were hoping for — light and singable, but meaningful and impactful.
Our vision is that it gets in the heads (and maybe hearts) of young people and helps them make safer choices. It’s a beautiful reminder that music really can make a difference. Have a listen here.
